The Tracy, Minnesota Weather site is owned
and operated by Kevin Haney of Tracy,
Minnesota.
The weather is my hobby, ok maybe a passion.
My day job is working at
The Schwan Food Company in Marshall, MN as a Senior
Systems Engineer in the IT Operations department. I
have a B.S. degree in Computer Science from
University of
Montana.
I am a trained weather spotter (Skywarn)
with advanced training from the National Severe Weather
Workshops in Norman, Oklahoma each year. I am also a
licensed Amateur Radio operator and a Emergency Medical
Technician (EMT-B).
During the summer months I chase storms
whenever I can get the chance which is a lot of fun, but
also boring, most of the time is spent driving long
distances with a few good photo's and that's all. Its
95% boredom and 5% excitement.
I use state of the art weather equipment
and software in my chase car
to assist in getting closers to the storms and Tornadoes. The
nice thing about the weather, it always changes and teaches
us new things.
The weather monitoring systems in Tracy and at
Lake Shetek include Davis Instruments Vantage Pro Plus and a Boltek Lighting Detection System.
Each site has a weather camera that records 2 pictures each
minute and at the end of the day puts together a movie from
the previous day. Really cool to watch the weather and the
clouds roll by.
